The Keas and Leaders walked to the Kelcey's Bush Animal Park just up the road from the Camp, and enjoyed an hour and a bit going round the animals and helping to feed them. There were turtles, possums, sheep, wallabies, a calf, pony, peacocks, emus and many other things keen to have their food. Most of the children had not been there before, even though they live only 10 minutes away.
We got back to the Camp to find the Cubs and Scouts had been getting the flying fox ready, so the Keas joined the queue. There were two routes to choose. The older (braver) children climbed up the steep side of the hill to a platform from which they launched down the length of the wire.
There was just time for a quick lunch before we had to leave the Camp early. We scooted back home and got changed and then drove in heavy rain into town to the Pipe Band Hall. At 2pm the boys were each in a music concert put on by Ruth, their piano teacher. There were about 20 children and each played one piece they had chosen (some had only been learning for one term and the longest was 18 months since Ruth moved to the area), they all played percussion instruments that Ruth accompanied on the piano, and they all sang a Christmas song at the end. It was lovely to see them, and interesting to see ours perform to an audience for the first time.
We invited our friend Guy (with the traction engine and combine harvester from stories earlier in the year) and his daughter Sarah (who had also been playing piano) back to our house, and then they ended up staying and having dinner.
In the evening I had a long skype chat with my friend Shirley and her daughter Felicity, after who our lambs are named.
The photos are of an alpaca pulling a funny face, two baby emus and the boys on the flying fox. The two emus are from the same nest of eggs. Apparently the mum lays an egg every 2 or 3 eggs until about 10 have been laid, so the last one is laid maybe a month after the first one. The dad then takes care of the eggs, but obviously they hatch over a period of time too.
