Trains, doors and hen houses

Sunday 4th October: Another day of wintry showers and sunny spells. A high of only about 9 degrees.
Steve is still on-call but had no calls early this morning so all the boys squeezed into bed with us for a cuddle. After breakfast Steve headed out to the house and we followed shortly after. The boys and I then went to Timaru, but wintry showers began to fall on our way there. We had some things to get at the shops - things for Edward's upcoming birthday party, milk, kitchen sink taps and other bits and bobs. In the middle of this the sun came out and we went along to the South Canterbury Model Engineer Club's event. There were radio-controlled boats on the pond, and model steam engine rides. The boys loved their ride on the train and were keen to have a go sailing the boats too!
We returned to the new house and made lunch. Steve had been busy all morning fitting a door to the tack room of the stables, and indeed spent the rest of the day finishing it off too. The boys cleaned out the nesting boxes of the hen house there and then we attached the hen house to the back of the truck by a heavy chain and pulled it on to an area of fresh ground. We hoped to bring the hens over early this week but there are some repairs needed to the hen house or they'll be a little more free-range than we intended!
The boys and I returned home and had tea. While we were waiting for the bath to fill I clippered their hair, then it was bath, hair-washing and stories and off to bed.
Steve returned home later, and I kept myself busy doing some cross-stitch I need to finish for Edward's birthday but still have quite a bit to do.
