Friday 9th October: Our Edward's 9th birthday. It rained nearly all day, with a high of only 5 degrees, and fresh snow on the hills in front of our house.
Edward came in promptly at 7am to open his presents and was delighted with the bits and bobs we had bought him. After breakfast we drove to Timaru and went to the cinema to see "G-Force". This is about FBI secret agent guinea pigs. Not exactly a true story, but highly entertaining and amazing graphics. We all loved it. After the film we went to have lunch in Subway and spent some time in shops in Timaru. The boys and I never go shopping except the supermarket, but we enjoyed browsing in book shops and toy shops and bought some sandals in a shoe shop. We had a chuckle that we were buying sandals while it was tipping down with rain outside!
We headed back to Waimate and Edward put together a clock his grandparents had bought him. It involved positioning all the cogs and workings and the pendulum. He really enjoyed the process and the product. It ticked its way through our tea.
Edward had chosen meatballs for tea, then Jeanette and Allan came in from next door for cake. Steve arrived home from work just as Edward was drawing breath to blow out his candles. Edward had chosen a dog cake for me to make and it worked out reasonably well.
Steve read bedtime stories this evening while I headed out to the house with two trucks full of boxes of food and crockery.
