Tuesday 8th September: What a beautiful day. Everyone we met commented on what a gorgeous day it was. It was sunny, with no wind, and really warm. Sunhats and suncream were put on.
Schooling wasn't a great success early on but after a little "encouragement" the boys got through the work I had expected them to complete today. They did enjoy looking at and colouring the food pyramid but weren't so keen on their maths.
We had sardines on toast for lunch - very yummy and the boys used the food pyramid to judge them as healthy eating too. It's great when what they use something we've learnt in the correct context later.
We walked down to town, but on the way were distracted by traffic cones and water bubbling out of the road so we had to investigate. We also found the workmen further up the road looking into the hole they had dug to fix the mains pipe, and the boys enjoyed watching the tipper truck tips its load of gravel into the hole.
We finally made it into the town and spent a relaxing time choosing books at the library. Edward likes to use the computer to look for books on a particular topic while Peter and Jonathan are getting very good at spending time choosing books of different types to take home. They usually choose a non-fiction book now as well as fiction, and Peter happily chooses long texts with no illustrations now. Edward chose one book today called "How to beat your Dad at chess" so you'd better watch out, Steve!
We also visited the bank so they could pay in the money they recently earned from selling pine cones. There was just time to make a quick visit out to the house and we were delighted to find Colin the builder putting in skirting boards, and two decorators plastering and the other painting the ceiling of one room, so things are starting to happen now.
Today we also ordered the carpets and the double glazed windows. Now hopefully all the tradesmen will co-ordinate and everything will come together in the next few weeks.
Home to cook chicken and bacon pie and the last of Peter's birthday cake. Steve came in from work earlier than of late and rushed off to fly his plane before dusk.
The photo is of the water bubbling in the street near our house.
