Little-Jessie-stuck-egg

Saturday 5th September: Congratulations Mum and Dad on your 45th wedding anniversary today. Today was a beautiful warm sunny day after a very crispy start.
In the morning the boys and I were busy doing nothing much while Steve went out to the other house and did something (not sure what, though!). We went to join him and the boys happily played in the sandpit while Steve filled some holes on the outside (roughcast) of the house and I did a serious weeding attack on a small border next to the deck. I discovered lots of strawberry plants and a small mandarin tree and another citrus tree completely strangled by the weeds. I also had a go at pruning the roses. Hopefully they won't mind and will still flower prettily this summer despite me!
The boys and I went home for lunch and enjoyed some more of yesterday's Snappy Birthday cake. Then we packed up the car with toys and games ready to go to Peter's party. Then we spotted that one of the hens wasn't well, probably egg-bound. I hurriedly boiled water and put warm water in a bucket whilst separating the hens. We spent a few minutes trying to catch Jessie who, although poorly, didn't think that taking a bath was quite what she needed at this moment in time. We left her dripping and bedraggled while we went off for the party.
Peter had 7 friends ranging in age from 6 to 14 plus his brothers, and we enjoyed 2 hours of playing games, making paper aeroplanes, and gobbling chocolate cake. We were really pleased that Peter had a great time but didn't get silly or naughty with all the excitement. Steve and I were also really pleased that 3 of the other parents stayed to enjoy the fun, and Steve's boss Barney turned up just as the cake was being cut so he stayed for the rest of the party too!
When we got home we gave Jessie another warm bath in a washing-up bowl and fed her some extra grit, but still no egg arrived. She was looking very uncomfortable by the end of the day and hope she will still be with us tomorrow.
For tea we had make-your-own pizzas and more snappy crocodile cake.
The photos are of everyone lining up with their paper planes, and everyone at cake and candle time.
In the evening I did some cross-stitch and spoke to my parents on skype, and Steve got called out to see a patient.
