Spring sunshine

Wednesday 2nd September: Happy birthday Joshua. Sunny and mild. This morning's schooling went really well. In fact this week has been great and we've got so much done. Last week was really tough so it's good it's going smoothly this week before I threaten them with "real" school"! We learnt about what is in food and what our body uses it for, and went on to discuss chemical fertilisers and genetic modification and the effect on the food chain. Just wait until they try to raise that topic at church!!!
We had lunch at home then drove out for our daily visit to the house and gave the animals some carrots, cabbage leaves and apple. They come up to their fence when they see our truck drive in now, and rush over when they see us go towards them with the food bucket.
Next we went to Steve's surgery for the boys to have their second flu jabs. Edward really didn't want his done and resisted in an upset way but then Jonathan hopped up, pulled his arm out of his sleeve and held his arm up for his. As he got off my lap, Peter took off out of the nurse's room at mach 1! I caught up with him in the (fortunately empty) waiting room and ended up dragging him across the corridor and back into the clinical room. Finally after much kicking and screaming the injection was given, then he jumped off my lap with a grin on his face and chuckled as he skipped back to the waiting room!!!
After our obligatory 20 minute wait we walked through neighbouring Victoria Park to the Scout Den for Keas. En route we visited the aviary, the peacocks and the wallabies. Edward and I then returned to the car and rushed around town getting some errands done, or "did our messages" as some people here say.
We dropped the car back home and walked back to collect Peter and Jonathan and enjoyed a walk back to the house in the late afternoon sunshine.
After tea Steve came in from work and I went off to a Playcentre meeting. In the past these have been gentile affairs but there was some heated discussion this evening that went nowhere except putting some people's backs up, and meant the meeting went on way longer than it needed to. I just kept out of it and enjoyed observing others fighting their corners. I got back later than I expected and so didn't have time to make bread rolls for tomorrow's lunch so our planned day needed to be changed.
The photos are from Victoria park, always so beautifully manicured. Also the flag flies opposite Steve's surgery and is apparently changed every day. I have no idea what this is the flag for so please tell me if you do.
