Saturday 4th July: What a busy day again! The clouds were busy raining most of the day too. Peter wanted to go fishing so Steve and he went to Waihao Box to fish from the sea but the waves were enormous and conditions were not at all suitable. Just before lunchtime we had a phone call to say the house vendors had reconsidered our last offer and would now accept it. So we are now the owners of a house, 2.25 acres of land, a goat called Sheba and a ewe and her lamb. I'm wondering which one of those will give us the most trouble and which will take up most of our time and most of our money!
After lunch we went back to the Waimate Winter Show to see how our entries had fared. Between the 5 of us we got 15 first places, 5 seconds and 7 thirds. In addition Edward won the sash for Best Exhibit in the home industries section for 8-10 year olds and also Runner-up for the same award. Steve won a Special Award for Best Gentleman's Exhibit for his aeroplane and got his photo taken with it for the newspaper! We stayed on for the Prize-giving as Edward had won a cup too.
We had a celebratory tea of doughnuts and coke and the boys went off to bed after we had read the first chapter or a new and charming book called 'The Extraordinary Adventure of Ordinary Basil'.
The photos are of one of the exhibitors at the Winter Show who walked around with her parrot Angel on her shoulder all the time. Angel drank her sherry as she walked around. She was very chatty with the boys and got one of her winning chickens out for them to meet, then walked around with it on her shoulder too. The other photo is of the sash, rosette, cup and place cards from today ( I found another second place card after I took this photo if you're counting them)
