Sandflies galore

Friday 20th Feb: It rained most of the night, but the tooth fairy made it through to us. We found we had a leak through the air-conditioning/heating unit on the roof, over one of the beds. But Edward slept on regardless. The rain continued, heavy at times, until lunchtime. We kept ourselves busy with reading, colouring, sewing etc. By 12 noon the boys were in their wetsuits ready to play in the sea. Steve and I wrapped ourselves up in waterproofs and wellies, to protect from both rain and sandflies! A real English summer picture – kids braving the beach with parents huddled in coats and hoods up in canvas chairs!
After lunch it stayed dry and we returned to the beach. ! Steve decided to join the boys in the water but hadn’t realised quite how cold it was so it was a real treat to watch the look on his face as he crept in. A little later he emerged from the water and walked on to the beach and asked me if he had looked like Daniel Craig in the Bond movie. I squeaked as I stifled a laugh and then said, “Yes… My name’s Bond, Jimmy Bond, licence to sell bananas in Ilford Market!” I was still laughing hours later – about the same time Steve began to find it funny!
The sandflies continued to be a real nuisance and I was a real target, so by the end of the day my feet were swollen, red and itchy.
