Willoughby Wallaby

Wednesday 1st April: Today was overcast and cool, getting chilly mid-afternoon. We schooled in the morning, interrupted by the dishwasher and fridge both ceasing to work. The dishwasher came back on, then went off again, having now melted the adaptor! The fridge came back on again a little later too. Strange!
After lunch we went to Victoria Park and the boys played with the 4 children of another homeschool family. We stayed in the park and rode our bikes around until 4pm when Keas starts. While Peter was at Keas, Edward, Jonathan and I rode into town to the hardware store to buy a NZ plug for the dishwasher. At the end of Keas we helped out with an easter egg hunt. Then we rode to the High School across town so I could coach Rosie the gymnast a little more. She's off to England at the weekend for a month so this was the last session before she goes.
We didn't get home until 6.15pm but dinner had been cooking in the slow cooker all day so we were soon eating. We enjoyed the toffee tart for pudding that the boys had made yesterday.
The photo is of one of the wallabies in an enclosure in Victoria Park. Two wallabies were introduced to Waimate by a new resident from England over 100 years ago. They got busy and there are now MILLIONS of them in the countryside, destroying everything they meet. Needless to say there are frequent hunting groups that go out to shoot them, a cafe in town sells wallaby meat pies, and they are a tourist attraction for Waimate, which is known as the Wallaby District.
